HOMILY FOR  THURSDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER (22/4/2021)

ACTS 8:26-40; PSALM 66; JOHN 6:44-51

“Philip baptizes a eunuch.” The first reading tells us of the work of Philip; preaching and baptizing. He explained the scripture to an Ethiopian official who was having difficulty understanding the Scriptures. Eventually the official accepted baptism.  We too can lead others to Christ – the Giver of eternal life. Beloved, as the gospel rightly noted Jesus is the giver of eternal life. In order for us to have this life, we must believe in the Scriptures; accept baptism and receive him in Holy Communion – the Bread of life. Jesus says “I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever.”

LET US PRAY

Almighty ever-living God, let us feel your compassion more readily during these days when, by your gift, we have known it more fully, so that those you have freed from the darkness of error may cling more firmly to the teachings of your truth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
