1 Corinthians 4:1-5; Psalm 37; Luke 5:33-39
Judging others is easy because it distracts us from the responsibility of judging ourselves. Precisely because of this, Paul addressed a group in Corinth who had been judging his excellence. Before you place judgment over another remember that we are at the mercy of God and that we shall all be judged by God. On the other hand, the Gospel speaks to us about doing the right thing at the right time. People can fast for various reasons especially now that there is the unhealthy rush for weight loss. Fasting for spiritual reasons purifies us and draws us closer to God. The disciples did not fast because they were in the presence of God. The scribes and Pharisees could not recognize this because they were clouded by rash and hasty judgment. Lord Jesus help us today.
Let us pray
Lord, we are truly in need of new wineskins. Grant us an elasticity of heart and mind, so that we can be ever open to the freshness and power of your word. Today, as we ponder what you say to us, may we cry out with joy to you and serve you with gladness. Amen.
