Daniel 3:14-20, 24-25, 28; Psalm – Daniel 3:52-56; John 8:31-42
Fr. Daniel Evbotokhai
The book of the Prophet Daniel recounts the story of three young men: Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah – who refused to abandon their religion for King Nebuchadnezzar. In faith they said to themselves we shall not bow to this image and God said to them you will not burn in the furnace. Faith is the ability to say ‘no matter the trials, sickness and affliction I will not bow and I will not burn.’
In the gospel, Jesus tells us that true discipleship is the ability to listen and keep his word. The three men kept God’s word and God kept them. Many are missing today because they did not listen. If we listen to His word no one will be missing; if we keep His word, He shall keep us.

1.The Lord is my helper. I will not fear; what can anyone do to me? Hebrews 13:6
2.The readings of today invite us to worship God with conviction.
3.In the first reading from the book of the Prophet Daniel; Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego preferred to die rather than compromise their faith.
4.Before the king, they were bold to say, ‘…we will not worship your gods. ‘’Our God who we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; he will deliver us out of your hand, O King. But if not, we will not worship your God.
5.From their statement, to worship God entails:
Understanding of the omnipotence of God
Trust in God’ providence and
Acceptance of God’s will
6.Jesus in the Gospel reading speaks with conviction too, trusting in His Father.
7.Like Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego, we are challenged today to trust God 100%
8.No matter what confronts us today, the will of God is always best for us.
An Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
